Content and answer engines
Publishing built to be cited by answer engines
A recurring content pipeline that writes, builds, deploys and verifies. The strategy is deliberately weighted toward off-site work, because AI answer engines cite third-party sources far more often than a brand own website, and a brand mention predicts AI visibility more strongly than a backlink does.
- Who it is for
- Operators who have noticed that ranking on Google no longer means being the answer, and who want to be the source an AI cites.
- Deployed for
- A twelve-site fleet across flooring, janitorial, commercial services, solar and lighting franchise verticals, plus Prospectr own properties. Described by vertical. Naming permission is not on file.
- Status
- Live deployment
The goal
Be cited, not just crawled. Being on page one of a search that now returns an AI-written answer is a smaller prize than it was.
Make publishing recurring rather than heroic. The failure mode of content marketing is a burst of activity followed by eleven months of silence.
Guard the pages that make money. Recency is a gate for AI citation on commercial queries, so revenue pages get watched rather than forgotten.
Produce original data, because an engine cites the origin of a number and a competitor cannot republish your numbers as theirs.
Cost, against the human alternative
Prospectr publishes SEO setup at $750, AEO at $500, and both together at $1,000 as one-time setup fees, on month-to-month terms with 30 days notice. Ongoing content production is scoped separately.
Anchor title: Marketing Coordinator carrying content, plus contracted SEO and developer time to deploy what gets written. A marketing coordinator runs a typical fully-loaded cost of $60,000 to $75,000 a year with payroll tax, benefits, paid time off, ramp time, and turnover included, and the contracted help sits on top of that. That is a market range for the title, not a quote of anyone actual salary. The goal is not to replace that person. It is to put them in their most productive role. Drafting and deploying twelve sites worth of pages is not a good use of a marketing person. Campaign strategy, offer testing, and partner co-marketing are, and those are exactly what gets crowded out when publishing is manual.
Month to month with 30 days notice is deliberate. A twelve month content contract exists to protect the agency, not the client.
The goal is not to replace humans. It is to put them in their most productive role. Nobody gets cut here. Your billing manager stops doing data entry and starts working collections. Your GM stops chasing paperwork and starts selling. The agent absorbs the repetitive half of a job so the person keeps the half that actually needs a person.
This is a typical fully-loaded annual range for that title, meaning base pay plus payroll tax, benefits, paid time off, ramp time before the person is productive, and the cost of refilling the seat when they leave. It is a market range for the role, not a quote of anyone actual salary.
Security
- Every external communication is drafted and staged for a human to send. Outreach, contributions to communities, and named-person social posts are never auto-posted.
- The agent does not post to an individual personal social profile. Drafts go to the human, who posts from their own account.
- Publishing runs through a build and verification gate. A deploy that reports success and serves a 404 has failed, and the gate catches that before anyone is told the site is live.
- Review and testimonial content is real or it does not ship. There is a dedicated remediation procedure in the library for removing fabricated reviews, which exists because this failure has real legal and reputational weight.
Output
- A weekly citation sweep across multiple answer engines, logging which domains got cited, where you were absent, and who is winning the answer.
- A weekly shortlist of third-party places worth earning a spot in, with genuine drafted contributions staged for human review.
- A publishing rhythm for a named human author, since the overwhelming majority of cited professional content comes from individuals rather than company pages.
- A freshness watchdog that flags any revenue page crossing 90 days without a meaningful update, and flags it with a pre-drafted refresh brief rather than just a complaint.
- A monthly proprietary data asset: one real number from your own systems, packaged as a quotable stat.
Ongoing cost to maintain
- Generation runs weekly and consumes paid model inference. Deployment is a deterministic scheduled script at no per-run cost. Splitting them is why a retry loop on a broken deploy does not re-run an expensive model.
- The sweeps and freshness checks are deterministic monitoring, so the recurring bill does not scale with the number of pages watched.
The framework that keeps it safe and keeps it cheap
- Be honest that most of this is correlation. The best available research is a map, not a guarantee. Track outcomes and drop what does not move citations.
- Do not over-invest in schema. Schema is packaging that helps a machine read a strong page. It will not rescue a weak one, and treating schema volume as a growth strategy is where content budgets quietly die.
- Queue only genuine contributions to communities. Promotional posts get removed within hours and can damage the brand, which is why every outreach item is staged for a human rather than sent.
- The whole engine runs on your own infrastructure and your own domains. Your content is not hostage to a platform subscription.

Where every claim on this page comes from
- The five recurring automations, the off-site weighting, the deliberate non-automation of schema volume, and the guardrail on genuine contributions are all specified in skills/aeo/SKILL.md, off-site layer added 2026-07-08.
- The two-phase generation and deploy architecture, and the reason for splitting them on cost grounds, is specified in skills/astro-seo-content-pipeline/SKILL.md, architecture locked 2026-07-15, covering a twelve-site fleet.
- The deploy verification gate exists as its own skill, skills/amplify-zip-deploy-200-gate, created after two real production outages where a deploy reported success and the site served 404.
- A dedicated fabricated-review remediation procedure exists in the library, which is cited here as evidence of the real-content-only rule rather than as a claim of a clean record.
- Setup pricing is Prospectr published pricing per the canonical agreements document dated 2026-07-14.
- DELIBERATELY OMITTED: traffic, ranking and citation results for any specific client. Search Console data exists for several properties but no publication permission is on file.
Questions people ask about this
What is the difference between SEO and AEO?
SEO is about ranking a page in a list of links. AEO is about being the source an AI answer cites when there is no list. They overlap, but the tactics diverge sharply: AEO rewards answer-first structure, factual density, recency, and above all being mentioned on third-party sources the models already trust.
Why focus off-site instead of on our own website?
Because that is where citations come from. Published analyses put a brand own domain at well under a tenth of the sources AI engines cite, with third-party sources dominating, and brand mentions predicting AI visibility far more strongly than backlinks do. On-page work is necessary and it is table stakes. It is not where the leverage is.
Is more schema markup the answer?
No, and we deliberately do not sell it that way. Schema is packaging for a strong page. It helps a machine read what is already good. Treating schema volume as a growth strategy is one of the most common ways an AEO budget gets spent with nothing to show.
How do you keep pages from going stale?
Any revenue-critical page that crosses 90 days without a meaningful update is flagged automatically, and the flag arrives with a pre-drafted refresh brief rather than just a reminder. Recency is a gate for citation on commercial queries, so the pages that make money get guarded first.
